Animals and alcohol

Cattle raised in Kobe, Japan, are pampered to produce some of the most expensive beef in the world, reports The Sunday Telegraph. "What sets the beef apart is its famed 'marbling' of fat. The daily massages are designed to distribute the fat so that the end product is mouth-meltingly tender -- although some farmers say it also relieves the cows' stress levels. Only premium grain is used as fodder and [beer] is added as an appetite stimulant. 'Cows, like humans, sometimes lose interest in food,' says [beef butcher Shinichi] Tatsumi, so the beer rekindles their appetite and packs on calories. Some do feign appetite loss, though, because they love the beer."
