go nuts! I did this last summer too, and I'm running a bit late this summer, but many people submitted their entries late last time, and since it's not an actual contest, it's all good. Have fun, go take pictures! You don't need a digital camera, I think all remotely decent photo developpers will put your film on a cd for you, (make sure you do this at the same time you get your photos developed!), but you do need some space. I could host some of you on here, I'm sure, if anyone is in need.
